Public Notice on Revised Rates.

Blantyre City Council is hereby informing the general public that property rates tariff levied on all properties in the City have been revised, commencing April 1, 2024. The tariffs have been adjusted from 0.0009 to 0.00117 and 0.0015 to 0.00240 for residential and commercial properties respectively. The minimum city rate for Traditional Housing Area (THA) has been adjusted from K10, 000 to K20, 000 per property biannually. License fees and other charges have been adjusted by an average of 35%.   The adjustment is aimed at ensuring the sustainability and improvement of the services offered by the Council. Detailed information regarding the revised rates can be found on the Council’s website(www.bccmw.com) page, accessible through this (link). All residents are requested to study the document to understand which charges apply to their properties comprehensively. The Council remains committed to delivering quality services and appreciates the continued cooperation and support of the public.

Intention to Refer Names in Defaulters of City Rates to Credit Data Reference Bureau

The Council is informing all property owners in Blantyre City that in line with the Credit Reference Bureau Act intends to refer names of owners of properties that have been in default of city rates to Credit Data reference bureau.

Property owners are therefore being urged to urgently pay their outstanding city rates bills to avoid being referred to the bureau and subsequently having challenges to access support from financial institutions.

Notice of closure of drinking joints

We continue to take precautions in relation to COVID-19 pandemic. In view of this, the following facilities are closed with immediate effect:

.Bars/bottlestores
.Shabeens and all drinking joints
Liquor shops are restricted to takeaway. We will revoke Business Premises Licence of any facility that does not comply with these restrictions.

Public notice on illegal developments in the City

Blantyre City Council has noted with dismay illegal developments mushrooming in the City. Some of these illegal developments are hanging of banners, installation of signposts and bill boards, excavating trenches to install cables and other facilities, rearing of livestock, fixing advertising materials on walls, trees and poles and playing loud music to advertise goods, services and for any other purposes.
