Vacancy : Electro- Mechanical Engineer (Grade I/M7)

The Local Government Service Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified Malawians for the following vacancies existing at Blantyre City Council:

Position : Electro- Mechanical Engineer (Grade I/M7)

Applicants must be in possession of a Bsc. degree in Engineering, specializing in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience.

                Job Summary

Installs, maintains, and repairs automated machinery and computer-controlled mechanical systems.

                Duties 

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:-

  1. Prepares designs and layouts for review
  2. Prepares specifications for bids, evaluates bids, and make recommendations
  3. Provides technical assistance on problems in maintenance areas
  4. Estimates labor and material requirements for engineering construction projects
  5. Designs electrical and mechanical systems and sub-systems
  6. Monitors and adheres to recommended safety requirements
  7. Regular contact with others outside the work group
  8. Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project
  9. Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions
  10. Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise
  11. Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities

Skills and Competencies

  1. Knowledge of building codes and construction techniques
  2. High level of analytical ability where problems are complex
  3. Oral and written communication skills
  4. High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  5. Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals required
  6. Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering
