Blantyre City Council has received a donation of sanitation materials worth MK15 million from the National Bank of Malawi, aimed at strengthening cleanliness and sanitation efforts within the City.
Blantyre City Mayor, His Worship Councillor Isaac Jomo Osman, on 30 January 2026, received the donation during a handover ceremony held at the Civic Centre Offices in Blantyre.
Speaking during the event, Mr. William Chatsala, Head of Corporate Banking for the National Bank of Malawi, said the donation was made under the Bank’s Corporate Social Investment policy, which focuses on supporting key sectors such as health and environmental management.
Mr. Chatsala noted that the support would complement the efforts of Blantyre City Council in keeping the City clean and pledged the Bank’s continued support towards development initiatives, including environmental and infrastructure projects that promote sustainable sanitation.
“This support is part of our commitment to partner with local authorities in promoting a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment,” said Mr. Chatsala.
Receiving the donation, Mayor Osman thanked the National Bank of Malawi for the gesture, saying the materials would help ease sanitation challenges faced by the Council.
He added that the donation would support the upcoming Clean-Up Competition, which aims to promote cleanliness and improved sanitation in the City of Blantyre, and appealed to other stakeholders and well-wishers to partner with the Council in supporting ongoing development initiatives.
The donated sanitation materials include gumboots, gloves, and brushes, valued at MK15 million.
