BLANTYRE CITY LEADERSHIP MEETS WITH INDIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER TO DISCUSS KEY DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

The Mayor of Blantyre, His Worship Councillor Isaac Jomo Osman, together with the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Dennis Chinseu, has held a high-level meeting with the High Commissioner of India to Malawi.

The Mayor of Blantyre, His Worship Councillor Isaac Jomo Osman, alongside the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Dennis Chinseu, today held a high-level engagement with the High Commissioner of India to Malawi as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Discussions focused on transformative urban development initiatives, with particular emphasis on the proposed expansion of Mahatma Gandhi Road into a dual-carriageway. The project is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and enhance mobility within the City.

“Strategic partnerships such as this are essential in our pursuit of a modern, inclusive, and well-planned City that delivers improved services to its residents,” said Mayor Osman.

Beyond infrastructure, the meeting explored opportunities for collaboration in cultural exchange, environmental sustainability, and potential foreign direct investment, including the establishment of a modern hospital in Blantyre by Indian investors.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a long-term strategic partnership aimed at promoting sustainable development and improving the socio-economic wellbeing of citizens in both nations.
