Clock Tower has new clock
Blantyre City Council with help from its partner Charter Insurance Malawi Limited has replaced the damaged clock at Clock Tower with a new and modern clock.
The clock at the tower is one of the long time unique features of the city and it stands just few metres away from the bus terminal which is an entry point into the city of most visitors.
An excited Council chief executive officer Dr Alfred Chanza said the coming back of the clock was a demonstration of the commitment to restore the lost glory of the City.
“Blantyre is known for its glory of those days. All that was almost forgotten and Blantyre became just one of those cities. We are doing all we can to bring back its unique identity and the restoration of the clock at Clock Tower is one of the initiatives,” said Chanza.
Charter Insurance Malawi Limited which adopted the site where the tower stands under the beautification campaign has spent about K25 million on the clock.
It is one of the first companies to enter into a partnership with the Council under adopt a site initiative.
