Blantyre City Council Signs a Partnership Agreement on Waste Management.
On 4th November 2021, Blantyre City Council entered into a partnership agreement with the Rotary Club of Limbe, Illovo Malawi, Kips Restaurant. The agreement aims at keeping Blantyre City clean, green and healthy. His Worship Councillor Wild Ndipo, Mayor of the City of Blantrye signed the partnership agreement on the Council’s behalf.
This is the second partnership to be entered into after the Council launched the Corporate Partnership Programme in June this year. The first partnership was with Medical Aid Society of Malawi (MASM).
The Council has set out an ambitious plan to install waste management infrastructure in every market in the City. This initiative sets a major precedence for cities across Malawi and in the region to think creatively about how a multi-sectoral and multi-player approach can be implemented to address sanitation and environmental challenges. The organizations that have partnered with the Council today are leading well-wishers responding to the Council’s public appeal for collaborative efforts in formulating creative solutions for improving sanitation systems for private residents and companies.
With the assistance from these four organizations, the Council will install 160 waste collection bins in all its markets. In his remarks, His Worship Councillor Wild Ndipo, Mayor of the City of Blantyre, called upon well-wishers, private sector players, and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to join hands with the Council in the management of waste in the City.
Taking the City back to the people.
