Blantyre City commemorates International Youth Day

Councillor Thokozani Phekani, Education Committee chairperson has advised the youths in Blantyre to focus on education to ensure a bright future for themselves and the City as well.

She was speaking on Thursday, 7 November 2019 at Mzamba Primary School during the commemoration of the International Youth Day.

“We urge parents and guardians to make everything possible so that their children can have access to quality education,” said Phekani, who represented the Mayor.

“Let’s work together to build a better nation by helping our children get educated. Making education more relevant, equitable and inclusive is crucial to achieve sustainable development. This is what is needed in this nation to build a better tomorrow,” she added.

She further challenged the youth: “The ball is in your hands, act responsibly and make full use of every opportunity you have. The future is all yours to waste. We are here because you are here.”

Member of Parliament for Blantyre City East, Sammy Suleman advised the teachers to avoid sexual relationships with students.

The day was commemorated under the theme “Transforming education.”
