Students graduate in shoe making
Blantyre City Council in partnership with Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education Training Authority of Malawi (TEVETA) celebrated shoe making training graduation on April 26, 2019.

The role of the Council is to identify young people to be trained in technical and entrepreneurial skills in order to address the challenge of unemployment in the City.
This is the second group TEVETA has graduated through the Council. The first graduation was in 2006 under a program of TV production.
TEVETA facilitates training in different service centres with the aim of improving standards of technical and entrepreneurial skills among young people.
At least 20 young people enrolled to undergo two months training but only 13 managed to graduate.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony, Denis Chinseu, Director of Trade, Commerce and Industry said the Council was encouraged by training opportunities offered by TEVETA to young residents.
Chinseu said the Council will give the authority the necessary support so that the institution trains more young people.
“As a Council, we are very happy, excited to witness the second graduation and we are very impressed with the kind of knowledge and skill being imparted to these young people. Definitely, it is a good starter pack for their independent life,” he said.
In his remarks, Wilson Nkhoma, TEVETA Executive Director said technical skills are very important for the development of the country.
“If we can learn to make our own outfits, we would stop importing goods from other countries,” said Nkhoma, who was the Guest of Honour.
He also encouraged young people to develop the spirit of learning technical skills and not only wish for white collar jobs.
TEVETA Malawi facilitates the provision of technical, entrepreneurial, and vocational education and training in Malawi.
