Deputy Minister launches roads construction projects in the City

On Friday, February 12, 2021, Honourable Halima Daud, MP, Deputy Minister of Local Government launched K2 billion roads construction projects in Blantyre City.

Under the Roads Fund Administration financed projects, the Council will construct Chilobwe-Stella Maris Road, North Road-Market Street in Limbe, Kapeni Road-Mahatma Gandhi at Mount Pleasant Street and Slip Lanes at Kamba, Kapeni, Keza and South End School junctions.

Daud said it was the wish of the Government that local contractors avoid doing shoddy works and also respect the contract period.

His Worship Wild Ndipo, Mayor of Blantyre City, thank the Government for providing financial resources for the projects.

The construction of the roads is expected to complete in eight months while the Slip Lanes are expected to be ready in two months.

Further to the tender notice and tender document published in The Nation Newspaper dated 1st October, 2020 and on the website of Blantyre City Council (www.bccmw.com) and the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets (PPDA) tender portal, Addendum No. 1 is hereby issued in line with Regulation No. 43 (3) of Public Procurement Regulations, 2020.

Blantyre City to have modern minibus terminals

Blantyre City Council has signed a public private partnership pact with Web Tribe to construct modern minibus terminals in the City.

The terminals to wear a new face are Mibawa, Limbe, Chilobwe opposite Blantyre market and Blantyre Bus Stands.

Under the 10 year Build, Operate and Transfer agreement, the company will also rehabilitate the existing structures at Limbe Bus depot, Limbe market car park and Blantyre market car park.

The Council is also introducing an automated revenue management system that will see the traffic wardens use point of sale devices for the collection of parking fees in the City. The project is expected to commence on November 8, 2020.
